Here’s what I can tell you. I was a table games supervisor when these chips hit the tables.
The first issue Casino Windsor chips look exactly the same, except that the rose is pink and the edge markings are perpendicular (sp?) where as you will note that on your chip the edge markings are diagonal (45 degree). What you have there is a sample of the back up chip.
These chips hitting the table was my first “big deal” at a casino – and certainly didn’t prove to be the last.
I remember my pit manager coming over to me and saying “no purple go in or out, and give me everything on anyone that you have seen with a purple chip – NOW! This basically meant every rating card I had filled out for that shift as it was a high limit pit. I then saw the Casino Shift Managers along with the Security supervisors speaking to pretty much everyone in my section one on one. All of my games stopped – If you have worked in a casino you know that they hate it when a game stops. And the $500 chips were replaced with the back-ups.
I never found out the official reason for using the back up, but one of the cage supervisors told me that during one of the hourly counts, they confirmed that there were a lot more $500 chips than there should be.
I paid $55 for the same chip you have pictured, and I am always on the look out for old Ontario chips. If you are interested in selling or trading, please let me know.
Hope this answers your question.
