RIP Bo

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Bo and working two shows with him back in the early 90's. I was the house light director for a rock and roll nightclub for three years. For a small club (max capacity 400), we booked in some premium performers (Bo Diddley, Lonnie Brooks, Merle Sanders (Grateful Dead), Sheryl Crow, Blues Traveler, Wide Spread Panic, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Pat Travers, Head East, Rusted Root, The Scream, Sun 60, Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad), Mickey Thomas (Jefferson Airplane and Elvin Bishop) Savoy Brown, Dream Theater, Mitch Rider, Arlo Guthrie, Quiet Riot, Cinderella just to name a few). Bo flew in with nothing but his guitar. His contract addendum required a specific model of Fender amplifier to be provided for him. A group of local musicians was brought in to accompany him. Sound check was basically a quick rehearsal of his song list - he showed the local guys the first four bars of each song. When it was time to start the show, Bo hit the stage and absolutely rocked the room! For an old dude, he still had IT! He put on a pair of back-to-back great shows, performances I'll never forget! His style of playing has been copied and imitated for decades. He truly was a rock and roll and a blues legend. The music world has lost one of the best. sad

RIP Bo.
