Just bring everything! Even if you think nobody will want your stuff. Frankly, I'm sure tired of seeing my traders, but guess what, every now and then somebody actually wants one of those doggie little chips! First convention, I ended up with some other newbies and we traded our local regional stuff back and forth and we all found success with the session. I've still got plenty of those chips and they're in my collection for keeps. You need not look for rookies either if you're new at the trade game, the old hands in the hobby want to take a look at your goodies too.
Like the rest of the hobby, trading at the convention isn't only about the chips, it's the people also. I've met folks over a trade that I'll have for friends at every other convention. Just relax, it's gonna be a fun experience. Shoot, half the time it seems like I cruise the trade sessions w/o my chips just to visit.
A couple of suggestions: If you have a value in mind for a particular chip in your trade stock, don't be bashful about putting a sticker with that number on the flip, holder, etc. It's a courtesy to others considering your chip. If you absolutly have to realize a certain amount to satisfy whatever you imagine the chip should move at, consider eBay rather than a trade session. You'll save yourself some potential upset.
If you have a chip for trade, well... trade the silly thing! Like Gene says, they are only pieces of clay and you can't have them all. Even if the other fellow is offering in return stuff you don't need, want or like, you might find yourself miles ahead at the end of the day if you realize the contentment to be had just from trading with another chipper. Lots of times, you trade chips, you get friends in exchange, pretty cool way to pass the time I'd say.
When is somebody gonna ask about dress code for the banquet?
