Carry-on ONLY! I know of NO exceptions!
If you use 3-ring binders and pocket pages, I strongly recommend the canvas or nylon covered versions that allow you to zip-up the binder. (Same with slot cards in binders.)
If over 100 chips and they are not in flips, then put in a chip rack and place a second rack over them and use food wrap plastic to secure the clam-shell racks.
If chips are in flips and then in long boxes, again use the food wrap plastic to secure closed.
DO NOT try to bring matchbooks. They will be confiscated, even if put in check-on! They must be shipped ahead if you want them there.
Securiy at the airport will see your chips mostly as dark circles. If using racks, they will see dark cylinders. Leaving Vegas the TSA Agents are fairly used to seeing this, but your origination locations may not. Always keep in mind that you may have to open/unwrap anything, so don't seal things closed as a one-time action. You may have to to open it and then want to re-seal.
If you are carrying Silver Strikes or other apparently valuable items, and you get designated for additional screening, ALWAYS ask for privacy screening. I have noticed that you get treated as a person and not a number when you ask for privacy screening. Privacy screening also requires a second TSA Agent, usually a supervisor that has a bit more common sense than most of the Agents.
I cannot stress enough to NOT leave chips and slot cards in the car, in the sun!!!!! The car will get to 120 degrees and higher in no time at all!
