The other day some of her postcards came my way. The real cool part of these items is that she gathered them at the source as she and her family traveled. The best kind of collectible memorabilia right? From the original owner to my hand, cool. Talked to her this evening and got some more stories and background to go with everything. The Thunderbird? Yep, she was there for a cocktail but didn't remember anything about the place. Played at the Riviera of course, after all they were staying next door at La Concha! She was pleased that even though the motel was flattened, they'd moved the office over to the Neon Museum. Also pleased to know that I'd been able to see this Googie artifact as well. The pic of the Riviera is the back cover of a souvenier gaming guide from the Riv and a very nice image of the place I hadn't seen before. They stayed at La Concha in '65 and '67.
Another time I'll post a few more things and relate some of the talk. Those of you who just recieved Chip Chat found the name Al Winter in there. Lived down the street from my cousin's present house so we covered LV, "The Boys" and Howard Hughes. She did tell me about a few "girls weekends" when she was single and pink collar in the '70's. They would usually take a bus from LA but had more fun that time one of the girls managed to snag a Caddy for the trip. They would stay at that place with "the bowling alleys." The Castaways I suggested? No... The lovely lady is well into her seventies. Duh! I remember the killer matchbook she'd given me a year ago, was it The Showboat? Bingo!
Tammy, I have a postcard of a Las Vegas motel that I'll pass along to you at Splashbar next.
