I will keep my rant short LOL! All I can say about this article (I read it in the Sun today at work) is BLAH BLAH BLAH! All that article did was blame the Unions, the Sub-Contractors and the men/women on these jobs, esp at City Center. Put the blame where it should be..Perini and the General Contractors. This job like most, safety is just a word. If it wasn't for the men and the Unions on these jobs, OSHA would NEVER show up. Being a Steward on City Center I deal w/ this on a daily basis. Someone on a part of the job calls OSHA out, and they do show up, and the Contractors and Perini has a flying crap fit. I get sick and tired of the men/women on these jobs getting the blame for everything. They do their jobs as safe as they can be w/ what they have to work w/. Sadly, the bottom line is, w/ a job this size and this many men on it, there will be accidents. We do all we can, but need help also. The bad part is, this job has a long way to go w/ a TON more OT on it before it gets finished. You want to blame someone, blame MGM for putting it on a accelerated schedule for completion just so they can make a few more bucks at the end of 2009 instead of 2010.
I really like this quote.....
"“For the number of people on the site and the amount of activity going on, we can be very proud of the fact that we have a very safe environment in which to work.”
I think what they meant to say was "For the number of people on the site and the amount of activity going on, we can be very proud of the fact that we have only lost 9 men so far".
P.S. I don't know about the dude running the gas station, but I LOVE my friggin' job and am very proud of what we build!
