Steve, any and everyone is welcome to watch or participate. While I have had pretty decent success on American roulette tables using my system (betting $1 chips), I've also had the same success waiting for the French roulette table to open playing on the table next to it at the $5 level.
While the house advantage is 5.26% on a 0/00 table, the house has to play every spin. The house advantage is 2.63% on the single zero table, and they still have to play every spin. I can quit if I'm losing. THAT'S the REAL house advantage. Most players don't quit when they should. I'm guilty enough of that, having given back way too much in winnings, but something usually kicks me in the head while I'm still ahead to pick up the chips and walk away. ...perhaps some of the lessons I learned as a prop poker player that I didn't need to be involved in every hand.
Prop Poker Player = a poker player paid an hourly wage by a casino to play poker with the player's own money. The player keeps all winnings, and absorbs all loses out of pocket. The casinos use prop players to start/keep games going in their poker room.
