I've seen some of the features upgrades in the "8" models becoming available in ads recently, and the pricing structure ($799) for comparable features is a move in the right direction. I do almost all of my computer work on laptops, and nothing gets cheaper in this arena. It gets faster or better in some way, but you have to buy the new stuff at pretty much the same price you paid for the old stuff, at the later date.

Bob (on my third laptop in six years, wore one out, needed to replace the middle one because it was too slow.)
