SO MUCH TO DO
It's been years since I worked and played in Deadwood (BC = before casinos) and the old Franklin Hotel was the best place to stay even with some good motels in and around the city. But there are probably some 1st rate motels now. There is so much to do; driving to the mile high city to see what was until the '80's the nation's largest gold mine; museum, there. Then a trip the back way to Sturgis through the Sturgis Canyon; magnificent scenery. If you are a fly fisherman, a temp license will get you access to some fun trout fishing in the various streams and ponds built by underpaid beavers. Some larger lakes have lunkers--lake trout and other fish. There are all the touresty things to see and some of them are really worth it such as Wind Cave or Jewel Cave. Short trips take you to Crazy Horse Mountain and Mount Rushmore; and beautiful scenery along the roards to Custer State Park--which is a must. Sylvan Lake and the route to it off Rushmore is beautiful. What is claimed to be the wolrds largest natural heated swimming pool is found at Hot Springs (or course) and is enclosed for swimming year around. A day trip east on US 18 brings you to the Badlands--very worth the trip. There are a ton of tourist stuff to see and do and some are worth it. I only wish I could get back.
