Welcome to another chapter of old Nevada chips! Fact of life about the hobby folks, chips show up all the time. Certainly small towners but even Las Vegas, I'm thinking recently Westerner, La Rue, and just this year, Silver Palace. Ever ever ever seen a canceled Ely chip? Me neither, they're sitting in someone's closet, attic, etc.
I've got a real interest in Ely and bagged a Chief two years ago. Followed progress on these somewhat. Saw Pam's sale post and thought the price was appropriate considering condition. Also factored in that the population had increased some since I bought mine. Pam priced these right IMO.
How to Buy/Sell a chip: Saw this chip first thing when the doors opened at the '05 convention. David Sarles had it for sale at $150. Quick look-up in C/W showed what it was. I asked David if I could show it to someone as Steve Wells was sitting abut three tables down. Sure he said, he'd found them on eBay and had 22 pieces. Steve recognized the chip right away and was surprised to even see one. I told him the number found so he and James could keep track. Steve said he'd jump on the thing at the marked price. David sold me the chip at a discount off the top. Know your chip, know your hobby and know your seller. Buy what you really like.
BTW, dealers are good guys too. One of the myths about the convention is that you need a lot of money to buy chips. Spend the money on a Riviera room instead and make friends with a bunch of dealers over the next few days. I once had a dealer drop a $60 chip in my shirt pocket when I wasn't looking just because we knew each other!
