The Peoples Federal Republic of Ethiopia is located in east central Africa. Located off the Red Sea formerly known as the People's Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is a small African nation. Ehtiopia fought a civil war where Eritrea broke off from the country.

The note, a 1945 issue of 1 Ethiopian Dollar. The fron features Haile Selassie I at left with a farmer and oxen plowing the field at center with mountains in the background. The back has the ‘Lion” Arms at center. This image of a lion is one of my favorites (Kind of’ reminds me of the lion in the Wizard of OZ). Printed by the Security Banknote Company (SBN) this note has no UV coding, water marking, or Security thread. This note in UNCirculated condition carries a $300.00 book value. ENJOY!!

Born Tafari Makonnen in 1891 Haile Selassie came to be identified inextricably with Ethiopia. The fortitude of the Selassie sometimes referred to as "The Lion" inspired Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King and even Malcom X, each of whom regularly corresponded with Haile Selassie --who advocated civil disobedience when it was necessary to remedy fundamental social injustice or restore freedom to the oppressed. The Emperor was also at President Kennedy's funeral. It seems somehow appropriate that the motion picture Born Free was filmed in Ethiopia during Haile Selassie's reign.
