Before you feel too guilty, you should read the Harrah's story in the book "All the Lights Were On". It relates how Harrah's promoted their casinos by delivering CASES of free ashtrays to MANY motels in California and Nevada in a radius surrounding Reno/Tahoe. The idea was that the motel owner would have a positive opinion of Harrah's if asked where to gamble, and the motel visitor would see (and take?) a free advertisement for Harrah's right there in their motel room.
(This story was from the 1970's era when Harrah's was competing for market recognition with the ubiquitous "Harold's Club or Bust!" billboards.)
BTW, quite a few casinos have removed advertising from their ashtrays now. We've come full circle.
