My favorite casino game Pat! In the scenario you present, you should follow basic strat and hit your 16. The reasoning is this: A hard 16 is a losing hand. If you stand with this hand you may lose 100 times. If you hit your 16, it will
still lose, BUT you may only lose 98 times! You will lose slightly less if you hit that puppy. I
always hit. Surrendering your 16 if permitted is an option but if you get a lazy dealer, that can kill the fun of that maneuver. I enjoy counting too but in a six deck game my counting ability is less Einstein and more chimpanzee.
The most enjoyment I get out of 21 is interacting with the dealer and my tablemates. Don't know if I've won much money but I got about a couple hundred pretty good stories for playing. Especially fun to play in Reno where so many of the dealers have worked some of the old joints that have disappeared.
I'm in this game when the following occurs:
Player (reading Dealer's nametag): "Gee Mary, are you really from Wellington, Kansas?"
Mary (exasperated look): "You don't think I'd make that up do you?"
