Did I tell you I attended Seattle Slews funeral in Lexington, Ky. It was in the paper that he died and was being buried. I called the Farm and asked for the owner of Slew. They gave me an 800 number.
I called it. Voice mail said "This is Seattle Slew, please leave a message." Yea right.
I called the farm back and got the girl to give me the Tayors number in exchange for two free nights at the Palms.
They loved that horse like it was their child.
I called Cinch and he picked me up at the Airport in Lexington and we went to the funeral. There were several 100 people there and not a dry eye in the house including Cinch's and mine, after Karen Taylor delivered the eulogy. Yes!! I said she delivered an eulogy for Seattle Slew.
Their was a dozen tents set up with paintings and photos of Slew. Some for sale by the artists. Cinch paid over $500 for one.
Mickey and Karen were touched that I would fly to Lexington from Las Vegas for the funeral. They consented to the run of chips with no royalties to them. Karen said "Please just do Slew proud on the chips." I tried hard to honor that wish.
We also did silver strikes for Slew. Karen loved the $200 so much she had me make 20 extra for her and insisted on paying for them.
I still stay in touch with them from time to time. Mickey and Karen did a lot of my research on the Alpine Club illegals article that is on Davids site.
BTW Slew was the only horse buried as a person would be buried up to that time. The whole body was buried. Most horses head and hoofs are the only parts buried.
