Thank you for sharing your insights on roulette chips. I totally agree with you on the problem of removing them from the tables. There design are very simple, plain and bland, just like you said 'ugly'.
The Chip Racker machines makes them uglier and even the feel of smoothness is lost. Regular house chips of the different denominations when they go through these machines are somewhat shredded inlooks. At the Taj the LE now and then goes through the machine which practially change the looks of the chip.
Last week Taj Mahal collected all the LE and put them 'for sale only'. Buyers are encourage to take them away -home and not play with it in the table. There are several problems occuring because of this new policy. Buyers are asked not to play them back - maybe not in roulette table but they appear in the other games in the casino.
I have seen several Donald's picture on one side and the Taj Mahal building on the other with his picture with "cigarrette burn" - I am referring to the $5 LE. With the burned face this chip is no good for collectors, but they circulate in the casino as usuall. Why people do that I don't know.
