of the person who is upset by the post, the damage may be limited by deleting the post. By leaving it there, more damage may be caused. I once made an innocent post, without any knowledge of why it might hurt someone. I quickly got 2 angry responses and 4 e-mails telling me off. Although I couldn't have known my post might have hurt someone, since I was not privy to the back story at that time, I apologized and deleted my hurtful post. I believe I was forgiven soon enough. Going through the administrators would not have been as good an option, since I could delete it immediately, and there are times where it takes time for an administrator to respond. I see no reason to eliminate the delete function. What real harm does it cause? A little frustration or curiosity about what you missed? That doesn't seem like much to me.
