Yes, Mike, some police departments won't do much. Misdemeanors can be tricky because the police can't serve as complainants if they do not actually witness the offense. Therefore, they rely on the public to step forward and sign a complaint. When you add geography to the mix, it's difficult. Nonetheless, the fact that some police departments don't or can't do much does not mean these reports should never be filed in any jurisdiction. Again, people who commit widespread fraud for small amounts are counting on victims to give up. It is frustrating to me when I hear that victims will not take advantage of the resources that are out there to help them. It breeds distruct of law enforcement and in rare instances encourages people to take matters into their own hands.
