My son-in-law has assembled a couple of those home-made potato lauchers out of PVC pipe. He uses aerosol hair spray for fuel and an electronic spark igniter from a gas grill to launch potatoes. It's mostly a distance event that it's used for to see who can launch a potato the farthest.
