A very, very common occurrence has been smashing windows or windshields to get into cars to steal GPS and/or Ipods. thieves are looking into cars to find indications that the owner has a GPS or ipod. They first look to see if there is a windshield mount for the GPS, or even the circle left by the suction cup. Once they see that, they know the GPS will be under the seat or in the glove box. The same for ipods. Commonly people will leave the wires going to the cigarette lighter out in the open, and the thieves assume the electronics are still there. This has become an epidemic over the past year.
Two people in my office have had this happen to them already, and three of my friends. Front windshield was been completely smashed out on three of these, and the side windows in the other cases. One of my employees had her son experience the very same thing only last week. Her car was broken into here at my office parking lot in broad daylight. The car was right out in the open in a crowded parking lot right in the middle of the day.
About half of these had the suction cups in place, the other half only had the circle left from the suction cup.
