"Curious Steve" ... You could probably get even a much cheaper room rate in Laughlin for four nights as well. But as I've indicated in an earlier post, it's a matter of convenience.

At some point, it simply does not make much sense (to my way of thinking) to make multiple back and forth trips from downtown hotels to the Riviera and back again. Are you familiar with the horrendous traffic jams on the LV Strip during the summer in the middle of the desert?? Are you planning to leave your downtown hotel only once in the morning to get to the Riviera and only once back to your downtown hotel at night? Will you have a rental car or will you be taking public transportation, or taxi cabs? Are you planning to attend some of the convention functions and activities at the Riviera which may necessitate a change of clothes, such as attending the banquet, going out for dinner, taking in a headliner show, or simply taking a dip in the pool?

'Convenience' has to count for something in the overall economical equation. Just my personal thoughts ...
