Re: Warped Chip
I have flattened a few warped chips with an old photo film dryer cabinet. It's an metal unit with a heating element, a fan, a door and a timer. I put a small piece of sample granite with one smooth side on the bottom. Smooth side up. Then a piece of smooth paper. Then I put 4 sets of quarters and pennys spaced apart and the bent chip in the middle. I put a piece of paper on top of that and another piece of granite on top of that. I turn the dryer on for a while and walk away. In about 20 minutes or so I add a few more pieces of weight to the top.
Let it go some more, then add some more weight. The coins keep the chip from getting squashed and the paper acts as a buffer so the very warm stone doesn't touch the chip. I have straightened out a few very badly warped old illegals and they look so good you would never suspect they were bent. I have only tried it on a chip that was hot stamped, I'm not sure what it would do to an inlay.
By the way, the chip I show below was not flattened. It's just a chip. I don't have any before and after photos
