Von - You have one more ivory chip than I do but even I know the answer to that one. The little hole in the middle is where the guy who made it pinched it in his spinning machine. j/k. That is the "vein" for lack of better term. The ivory comes from a living animal and the hole is the blood vessel or root or whatever of the ivory. I realize that is about as clear as mud but hopefully you get the idea.
