grading will only help the value if it comes back a 9 or 10. If its an 8, it may not be worth it, but check ebay for the latest prices. I haven't bought/sold cards for a long time, but the Tony Gwynn rookie should be a 1983 topps and Cal Ripken would be 1982 topps. The more expensive Ripken was in the Topps Traded set of the same year, but you couldn't pull that one out of a pack. I don't have that many chips to trade, but what year basketball?
