let me first preface my comments with saying that I have a lot of respect for both you and Christine. I recognize the amount of effort you both put into the club and if the rest of our membership would put in just 10% of what you guys do, the entire club would benefit.
I honestly think you guys have some fantastic ideas. Its these kind of ideas that keep our club moving in the right direction. I read the letter you sent to the BOD and I agree wholehartedly with 95% of your suggestions. We need more people like you guys.
Now with that being said, I personally believe that the suggestion of a name change to our club is not one of the better suggestions.
I can agree with your point number two above. Yes the name is difficult to say 5 times fast.
Point number 1 is a little harder to agree with as while the majority of our collectors dont collect tokens, many of them still do. I dont think this catagorizes us as archaic at all. In fact, I think the word Tokens actually do more benefit than detriment as it may bring in a new cross collector from the coin collecting field. Many of the old coin collectors join our club because they do collect tokens more than chips.
Now on to your point number 3. I have tried to correlate the membership growth to the name of the club and I am sorry, but I just dont see the connection. If it can be proven that we have people who dont want to join the club because of the name, you definately have a point to drive home. Unfortunately I am unaware of that being an issue.
So.... In closing I agree completely that the club name is hard to pronounce and therefore I try to avoid using it in any limmericks or poems. However would that reason be enough to make a change in a club name that has stood up for all these years? I am open to hear rhetoric to change my mind, but I have not been yet convinced.
I do understand that everyone has a right to table anything they feel could benefit the club and I do think you guys believe that this name change may accomplish that. I dont feel that way, but if we all agreed on everything, the world would eb a pretty boring place to live.
Usually disclaimers apply....... (The normal CMA comments)
Take care and thanks again for all you guys do for the club,
Doug
