With the introduction of 'towers' that display the last 20 or so numbers and colors hit, it's not unusual for 15 or more consecutive same color (red/black) to hit. Some "outside" players will always bet the previous color ... and when it changes, they change their bet. That way, when the streaks begin, they are in on it from the beginning. Better odds are on single zero wheels.
Like somone else has commented, flipping pennies gets the same result. Heads may come up multiple times in a row; then tails may come up multiple times in a row ... but over the long haul, it works out to be pretty even. Of course there is no zero(s) flipping pennies.
