Toooo funny Berry, I clicked on the main page of the
www.ghosttowns.com website....selected Utah....selected Iron County (bottom left side, 2nd county up)....and it pulled up my town of Beryl, Utah!!
According to the website - this place is a ghost town!.....whaaaaaat?
In reality it is a thriving farming/ranching community and the ONLY polygamists that live here have a dairy farm (and yes, they are the perfect neighbors...very polite, considerate, hard working and the kids are wonderful).
The picture of the "Beryl ticket booth" is in reality our first post office from the 1920's (true, it was abandoned and the post office moved into a modern building 14 miles away in the late 80's), but the property is still privately owned and many of the so called "abandoned buildings" are either still owned by the railroad (..the railroad still runs freight through here but refuses to sell any of the property or buildings, so we just watch them flap in the wind) or by Las Vegans that are holding onto them for future investments or retirement building plans.
Anyone who wants to come ghost hunting with us, is welcome to stop in for a cup of coffee or lunch when you get in the Ely, Nevada area - we're just a hop and a skip East of Ely...and much like any rural community - the coffee is always on!
And if you're lucky - you may just get to see our wild mustang herd.....
