They've been trying to do something for years to preserve the site, and honor the history of the Rouge. Unfortunately, it's never quite worked out.

Wouldn't you love to go back in time for a bit, to see this place in its heyday? LV was segregated. Blacks could work as cooks and maids, they could perform in the shows, but they couldn't stay in the hotels or walk through the casinos. The Moulin Rouge welcomed everyone. The big names that were performing on the strip, after their last show, would go to the MR and sit in the audience, or would even go on stage and join the show for a bit.

One morning the employees came to work, and the gates were padlocked. The Moulin Rouge was closed. Some said they were broke, some said the big boys on the strip didn't appreciate the competetion.

The casino re-opened briefly, in 1990 I think, which is where the newer chips came from. They weren't open long.
