Well, here's what they look like. These are the silver 'fantasy' tokens that were sold on eBay about a week ago. I have 10 of the 12 with the Showboat and Binions Horseshoe eluding me.
These are 1 oz silver with a pic of the $100 chip on one side and a common roulette wheel pic on the other. Some appear to be gold plated. The edges are plain and marked International Sterling while there is an "IS" logo on the reverse. When delivered, they each had a piece of flocked cardboard stuck to the reverse with adhesive, apparently to give them a non-marking surface on the back (to use as paper-weights?). The diameter is the size of a standard chip.
I was hoping that each was a faithful representation of the $100 chip in use when the were made. However, some have modifications. Note the Sahara that is the same except for the shape of the inlay. Others like the Frontier and Stardust seem to match the descriptions of the real chips.
Since the Union Plaza is included, these must have been made after 1971. I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone who has knowledge of the year made, who made them and why, quantity minted, and whether 12 is the total in the set.
All in all, a very interesting discovery and I'm surprised I've never heard a mention of these before last week.
