Re: Michael, some information

Michael,
I will reply to your post because you asked relevant questions that deserve answers.
No Michael I Do not disbelieve all historical research because the researchers were not present at the event. I do not disbelieve all archaeological evidence either.

Michael, you being an attorney will understand the concept I will attempt to discuss. During the late 1980's and early 1990's when all this nefarious Borland counterfiting was suppose to be going on.......chips were being bought, sold and traded in "stacks". There was no incentive (profit) motive to produce chips from closed casinos when collectors were trading "stacks" of chips in all denoiminations with each other. A "Bugsy" chip sold for $100.00 and everyone thought this was outrageous.

Borland and Starr were producing what we now call fantasy chips for sale to tourists who like the way they looked. Borland also made "real" chips for real casinos. I have one of the last brown paper catalogs he put out for his business. If you look at it you will see there are no reproductions of "real" chips for sale.

Now I do not disagree there is a possibility Borland did in fact reproduce chips from closed casinos. However, if we look at the claims of what Borland made I don't honestly believe he could have made all the chips he is being accused of making in a lifetime. Don't forget he ran a business as well as working for a casino.

I have often said there is no such person as an "expert". I certaintly am not. However, my investigative nature tells me something is not right. Just think for a moment of the chips that are tainted with the Borland mark. All most every Nevada and/or dice cards mold ever made. Please Michael, with common sense, tell me how this man made these chips with a hand press one chip at a time? I say it is impossible and cannot be done if he worked at it 24 hours a day.

You are swayed by David's research because you don't have more information. You are told what David wants to tell you and this is his right as an author. It is my right to disagree when I believe he is not correct. Yes Michael, Borland made chips from closed casinos but in my opinion it is simply a guess which ones they were. I attempted to purchase his records but was unsucessful. The chips you see with inserts were pressed blanks already containing the inserts.

Now my friend, you are obviously free to believe whatever you wish. I for one will always speak out when I believe some one, any one is putting out information that is not correct. You see Michael, I love this hobby and do not want it to continue along a path of incorrect information when I was there and saw much of Borland first hand. As did many of the other old timers in the club who remain silent for fear of upsetting Gene. You see Gene and I are friends; so we speak our minds and go about our business and never take it personal. The hobby does not allow us that luxury.
