<<I think one reason is due to the large number of chips that are just dumped on the market after one of
these card rooms closes. When people see enough CA chips going for $1 each or less, they soon equate
that price to all CA chips.>>
I would think that if the price for these chips were only $1.00, then more people would want to have them in their collection knowing that the cost to obtain them was so low.
I can't really believe that I am just one of the very few collectors who are looking for bargain chips and collecting just for the sake of amassing numbers of chips as opposed to those that are looking to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars for a single investment chip.
I know the advise most long time collectors will give to newbies such as me is to specialize, but when one can buy a chip, any chip, for a dollar, sure as heck I'm going to take advantage of it. Sure, I know it's not ever going to be worth more than what I paid for it (if that, upon resale) but neither are any other of my chips going to increase that much in value in the short time I have left to enjoy them.
