Given a choice, cable is better in many areas but also more expensive. Depending on where you are in PA that swaps because its Comcast HQ area so Verizon kicks it up a little. There are multiple packages with Comcast cable so that also might be worth looking into.

BTW - DSL gives you faster upstream so if you are hosting a site, or using a lot of stuff that requires uploading that may play into it. But generally, go with the neighbor's suggestions. They've lived with it for a while and know how its going to operate.
