... I think I solved my own problem. This is...well, weird. Believe it or not I was trying to scan an item that is about 4" x 4" x 1" thick. (OK, I'll tell you. It was a casino ashtray.) When I lowered the cover on the scanner, of course it wouldn't cover the glass scanning "table". A lot of outside light got in during the scan. The ashtray is made of glass so a lot of light was reflected & bounced around during the scan. I think this somehow affected the scan & made it black & white only. I scanned a chip before & after the ashtray and the color came out just fine. In case you were wondering, the scan of the ashtray was pretty good, just not in color. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know..."Buy a digital camera you cheap #@!%".
I would appreciate any comments. (Serious comments please. I know this post is full of straight lines. <g>)
