My, what an interesting and fun thread. I bought a set of Riviera porn chips from Pete Rizzo. He sold them to me at the original agreed upon price of $20 for the set. Frankly, I was amazed. An important factor here is, I agreed to purchase the set, and he agreed to sell it, before they were pulled from the cage. The set I bought was one he had bought through normal casino chip distribution procedures. Now, if I had not wanted the set originally, but had decided I wanted one after I knew what they were worth, he would have been a damn fool to sell me a set for $20.
When the Hilton millennium sets came out, I was able to get a limited number of complete sets. I sold them for my regular price. There were only 500 of the Cal Neva Mapes chips. I bought stacks when they first came out, sold them to my regular customers for my regular prices. They are now sold out. If you want one I have stashed away, you'll pay my inflated price. Or go find one somewhere else.
These Peppermill chips are NOT and NEVER HAVE BEEN available to chippers by the stack. I managed to work hard and luck into a few. If you get lucky and find one a dealer accidentally accepted and put in the rack, or catch someone playing one and snag it, or find someone who was at the party and is happy to get $5 for their "souvenir," congratulations! Who out there would feel obligated to sell it to me for $8 because I'm such a nice guy and get you the regular new LEs that come out for $8?
None of you have any right to tell me I don't have the right to profit from my find. I managed to luck into a few Flamingo and Horizon NCVs. They're worth what the market will pay, just like every else's obsolete and hard to get chips. The only chips that are subject to "new issue chip service" rules are chips any local could go to the casino any buy just as easily as I can. I don't see anybody offering to sell me obsolete, hard to get chips at face plus a $2 markup.
My auction closes in about 10 minutes. If you know someplace else to get this chip for less, I'd suggest you grab it. And if you don't like my "service," it's a free country and a free market. Get your chips where you please. This is more work than I needed for a hobby anyhow.
