Bob, you're correct; there IS nothing wrong here. Larry described in detail the circumstances that led to the relative unavailability of this chip, he priced it right and at least two bidders have decided they're willing to pay significantly over face for it.
Last month I put a current win cards chip (the 15 for $10 variety) on eBay with an opening bid of $4. It sold for almost $27, only because two bidders decided they had to have it. The third-highest bid, as I recall, was about $6. I listed it again a couple of weeks later and it didn't receive a bid. eBay is a strange animal, as a lot of us know.
