As I understand it, NCR does stand for National Cash Regiser Company and NCR did have two chemists who invented carbonless copy paper.
When is was marketed and distributed, as "carbonless copy paper", I suspect that many office workers saw the "NCR" logo (which was the three letters, N C and R) they applied their own meaning to the acronym.
So this begs the question... What was carbon paper?
