Re: Safe Storage
In Response To: Safe Storage ()

Don, I responded to your post to the best of my
ability explaining that I had the same exact
problems as others did with clay chips when housed
in the older type 2x2 PVC flips and pages. Being
that my chip collecting interests involves several
other materials (both of chemical synthesis and of
natural origin): ivory, Mother-of-Pearl and various
other materials, I thought I was being helpful in
explaining the types of damage I've seen other than
what was seen by others. I've only suggested the
practice of safe chip storage as has been done in
the numismatic world for other numismatic material.
I'm not suggesting what you or anyone else "worry
about in life." I'm not concerned with who sells
these products that the numismatic world refer to as
unsafe...but whenever the topic of PVC storage
products turns up on this bb, I will continue to
mention what damage I've had with these products
while kept away from heat and dashboads as you so
suggested may have been the reason for damage to Bob
Orme's red chips and to my material. I'm not
doubting any lab tests made by anyone, nor am I
doubting anyone's ability in telling us facts that
are unknown to the majority. I did, though, suggest
one study the dangers of the products containing PVC
as so described.

BTW: When Archie posted the PVC testing information
on the CC>CC Message Board last week, I asked him
if he was also going to post it here. I'm looking
forward to seeing it published in our next club
magazine as well...along with any other helpful
information anyone wishes to share with the
membership regarding this factual danger to chips as
so described and illustrated.
