These photos are part 2 of 2 of the photos from the August 14, 1939 Life Magazine issue of Life Magazine showing the unprovoked attack on innoccent gambling equipment on the fleet of gambling ships including the roulette chips, slot machines, roulette tables, and craps tables aboard the USS Texas. Similar depradations took place on the SS Tango and SS Boardwalk. SS Rex Captain "Courageous" Cornero succumbed to the assault after attempting to prevent boarding by the California-based pirates. The Equipment on the SS Rex suffered a similar fate.
Police announced they had rescued over $30,000 in cash during the invasion, which is interesting since the average daily take was in the neighborhood of $300,000 in cash.
Von, being a good cop, would have arrested the bad cops, bless his heart, for assault with intent to do mayhem, and for violating the civil rights of the gamblers and gamblees, to say nothing of wiping the smirk off the face of the guy bagging the chips.
