I am open to a reasoned argument. Two questions...
In what way is the hobby in need of saving?
And presuming that it is, how would slabbing (which is basically a third party determination of a chip's value, and placing it in a sealed holder, for a fee in excess of the value of the vast majority of chips) save the hobby?
It should be noted, that for me, part of the joy, is touching the chip and thinking about its history. It is also reasonable to point out that most of the legitimate experts in the hobby are voluntary members of the CCGTCC, which requires their members (under the organization's code of ethics) to share that knowledge and expertise.
