It was North Carolina State that took the title that year, not the Tar Heels, which is where the plot thickened for the Walton Gang. NC State was undefeated the year before, but on probation. UCLA played them in the first game the following year, the team that was finally supposed to challenge them, but UCLA blew them off the court.
But then the Bruins lost to the Pack in the double overtime Final Four semifinals, and State took the title against (I think) Marquette. Those were the good ole days.
You went to that Oregon-UCLA game and forgot UCLA got beat???? How is that possible?
