Lucky you! That magazine cover must have been 1973. Did they break the San Francisco record of 60 against Notre Dame??????
By early '74, they were up into the eighties in a row, and Walton was working on the rarest of sports accomplishments - the undefeated CAREER. Undefeated national champs in '72, undefeated national champs in '73, and undefeated in '74 up to the game at South Bend, where they led by 11 with a few minutes to go.
If I remember right, after the Irish rally and streak ending upset, UCLA went on the road and lost both at Oregon and at Oregon State. You must have seen that monster upset. Oregon beat UCLA at the game you saw, right????? If not, it must have been Washington and Washington State (instead of Oregon and Oregon State) where they lost back-to-back in February of '74.
Which was it??
