I think there may be a perfect storm situation here. Kenny Frncis has been unloading a number of chips to buy a Trike, and David Spragg has been selling off some estate chips (he is not a major seller on the board-he does refer to his website frequently though).
It has become more expensive to use ebay, and based on comments from various folks, I get the impression that there are so many hassles dealing with unknown sellers or buyers, and it is just easier here. Is Jackpot Auctions still in existence? Does anybody use Yahoo Auctions?
I don't think that chipping is falling off, but it may have leveled off some. A lot of prospectors, rather than collectors have jumped on certain chips (think Hooters) and are now taking a bath.
There needs to be continued growth to sustain increases in sale amounts, if growth reduces then it is harder to get higher sales amounts. I collect, will continue to collect, and will will continue looking forward to dealing with my friends in the hobby.
I suspect that after a 'market adjustment', growth will resume.
