I saw the second episode of the BBC production of Robin Hood. I do believe a political statement was made.

In the episode Robin surrendered himself to the Sherif of Nottingham in order to save some of his Locksey pals from having their tongues removed.

The Sheriff, quite naturally ordered Robin hanged the following morning. That night Marian (who doesn't care for the 'maid' moniker) discussed with a friend of Robin's what they should do. It was mentioned that Robin would be exonerated at his trial the next morning. Marian said that the Sherif declared Robin an "enemy combatant" and was not entitled to counsel.

"Enemy combatant" --- give me a freakin break!! I never heard that term used when Errol Flynn wore the green tights.
