My sources in Austrailia are reporting that Crown Casino, Melbourne is in the process of phasing out their Dolphin manufactured lower denomination chips in favor of "cheap plastic chips".
Sorry, I don't know how to characterize "cheap plastic chips" (i.e., brand) but the word "crappy" was also used. It was surmised that the per-chip cost of Dolphin chips is greater than face value of the $1 and below. However, an additional not included the Crown snappers as also being replaced.
I do not know the timetable for this change out, nor have I seen the replacement (crappy) chips.
Just a messanger here from a collector who lives there. If and when I see/hear more, I'll pass it along.
