When I was 13 or 14 years old, I went hunting with my beagle Bernie. Well Bernie sniffed out some thing by the edge of the woods, it was a dead skunk in one of my Dads traps. It looked a few days old, I thought it was odd because Dad checked his traps every day. So I picked up a stick a tried to remove the Skunk from the trap for Dad.... well after giving it a few pokes I quickly gave up and retreated home..

Well a light Breeze was all it took to bring the scent home also..

That day when Dad came home he shared a life lesson with me. "When you find a Pile of $HIT, if you stir it with a stick... it's going to Smell"

So Keep stirring until you can smell it.
