Finally got a day off and common decency keeps me from starting in on the hot buttered rums and the sixpack of Snowplow in the fridge until at least noon, but...!
Thought I could pass along an image of another Starter chip and some info but I'm looking at an afternoon puttering around the 'net I guess. Bought the $5 as the "imitation" per TCR at the last convention, got the $25 piece from David Spragg about six weeks ago and included the genuine green Eureka chip just for fun.
Long bumpy thread attached to the black chip here: http://www.thechipboard.com/cgi-bin/tcbarc16/tcbarc16.pl?read=569425
As I was scanning these puppies, I noticed that the black $25 Starter shows that bronze-tone hotstamp foil that is attributed to Borland work. Easy to see the contrast compared to the other two chips. Well, that made me look again at the $5. Hmmm, not too bronzy at all. And as the red chip was sitting there on the scanner, I could see that the alignment was at about a 45 degree skew rather than any alignment we'd see in most Borlands. Borland was noted to be careful how the hotstamp matched up with the mold and you'd expect to see the "Nevada" at 12:00 on the chip. The black chip on the other hand has the standard Borland orientation w/dice at the standard compass points. I believe the authors gave us their best information when they listed the $5 chip as an imitation and TCR Note 003 makes for interesting reading.
Keep in mind that research on these silly Nevada and DieCar molds is ongoing. This kind of exploration is what makes the hobby fun, at least for me!
