Depending upon who the auctioneer is (no offense to Jim K. who won't be around forever) I could live with your (c) proposal... IF the auctioneer is taken out of the formula. "and the auctioneer accepts the listing" ...... ,
The auctioneer does not accept lot listings; the Auction Chairman does.
In my opinion, the $5 charge as in proposal (b) is out of the question. "If it does not get a bid, the consignor is charged a nominal amount (say, $5 plus the mailing cost to return it to the consignor")
All this would do for $5 is hype the chip in the auction where it does not sell and then sell it on the convention floor the next day without a commission to the club. $5 for the free publicity on a hypothetical $1000 chip illustrated in the auction catalog is asking for a free lunch in my opnion. How about 5% on the $1000 estimate by the consignor? How about a maximum ceiling of say a $150 commission on the seller's end ... no matter what the estimate if we're serious about submitting four figure items in the "prestigious" club auction?
The main purpose of the club auction is to sell chips to active bidders .... not to return them to the consignor.... for the consignor to sell at a later date after being featured in the club auction. $5 indeed!!
