Dear Archie, Bruce and Howdy,
I'd like to first say thanks! Thanks for holding our club together along with forming a spactaculat yearly convention and auction. Every bit of effert made by yourselves, and evetone else who has help to being us where we are today has not gone unnoticed.
Since there's currently quire a bit of disscussion as to an imposed 10% commission (20% total) on any unsold lot having a reserve, along with the club feeling there is a need to speed-up the auction and to what some members feel as pemalize the comsignor for protecting their oun lot(s), I'd like to make but two suggestions:
1) In order not to discourage consignments of scarce, rare and high-priced lots, perhaps we could call for such reserves to be within published values in our books. If a consignor is unable to decide for himself, or places a reserve far too high of what's published (as these are the tools we all use), then pehaps that that published value should be preceding the reserve price. As for lots being entered without a published history of value... luckilly we have qualified consultants such as myself who would be more than happy to assist and advise, and that value could be published as being from a consensus of qualified source. Now, in this respect, if a consignor does not agree to conform with what is general knowledge and printed price realized/book value, then the consignor should be made aware and agree to the additional 10% imposed if the lot(s) are unsold. I believe this would both welcome quality lots and educate all in the process...and this is what I feel we are all about.
2) As far as expediting the auction and not impede irs flow, along with holding the interest of potential bidders, perhaps we could realign and categorize lots within special interest sections such as: Nevada, AC, Cruises, Foreign and so on. With, of course, careful consideration given to interests of majority (Nevada).
I hope this is of some help.
