CHIP ID CONUNDRUM!
Being relatively new to this hobby (5-6 YEARS!) Chris & I continue to learn from all who have preceded us! I have to pose a question to all the venerable members who populate this BB.
Where have all the records gone and who has them now??
I would like to know;
(1) Who owns the records of a particular mold, and perhaps the period
covered by the records. Also if that person may be contacted to ID a chip
of a particular mold, and what he/she would want as payment (HOPEFULLY NOTHING) for each ID (e.g., chip, money) and what email or snail mail address can be used to contact
him/her.
(2) What books have been published of a particular mold -- a book that shows
pictures of the chip design, date, etc.. Also, if the book is still in
print and available.
The books I know of:
(1) "Howdy's Guide to Hunt & Co." -- shows chips of the 4 different chain
molds. Also, some monarch mold chips. Email Herz to get the book. Still
in print?
(2)"Kregg's Guide to the Records of The United States Playing Card Co."
-- pictures of plain mold inlay chips.
I know that Robert Eisenstadt’s wonderful web site lists a lot of companies in his mold pages; O’Neill, Portland, SF Card Co., to name just a few!
I know that I searched for the records of the SF Card Co. and pretty much drew to a dead end!
I know that I have attempted to track down the records of the Jack Todd Co. and been advised they exist but may never see the light of day.
Persons who I believe own mold records:
(1) Large square mold of Jones Co -- Allan Myers
(2) Hub mold of Mason Co. -- Howdy Herz
(3) Square-in-Circle (Portland Co.) and a few DiSq -- Bud Myers
(4) T-mold of Taylor Co. -- Gene Trimble
(5) Small and large crown -- I believe Doug Saito has some or all of the TR
King records.
(6) H-mold -- I know that Gene Trimble and Mark Lighterman put the records
of the H.C. Edwards Co. on CDs, I have them!
(7) I believe Gene Trimble and David Spragg are going to put up a web site soon with records from a number of companies, at least I hope it’s soon!
I would like to put together a list of who has the ID records (chip design
picture, date, who ordered the chip, etc) for each chip rim mold.
I would really like to somehow pull these disparate locations of the records together. I would really like to know how to access records that are in the possession of individuals that do not publish them. I would like to know how we could access these records with the permission of the owners of them
And PLEASE feel free to correct any misinformation that may exist in this post!
Any information that can be passed on or provided to me for the purpose of making this list of CHIP ID locations will be made public to the members of the CCGTCC!
CHRIS AND I LOVE THIS STUFF, IT IS NOW A LIFELONG OBSESSION
FOR US AND I AM ALWAYS HOPEFUL!
