Hey John,
From an earlier issue of 'CHIP CHAT', there was an article describing that the CJ chips have a metal disk in the center. So, I had 11 chips x-rayed. Note that the metal disk would show as a light area in the x-ray... Three of these chips included a CJ sample chip, a Riviera 50c (by the way I got from you a couple of years ago...), and the Golden Nugget $1.00 chip. Well the Golden Nugget $1.00 chip that we were talking about last week, or at least the one in my collection FAILED the CJ test. I've pulled the respective image data from the larger (389+ K byte file) and composed the image below. The chip images on the left side are the subject chips, and the images on the right are the corresponding X-Ray image of the chip on its left.
As shown below, the material in the Golden Nugget $1.00 is denser than the material used in the Riviera 50c chip (as the Riviera X-Ray is darker...)
By the way, the CJ Sample chip (not shown below) did have the metal disk in it!
It should be noted that even though the H&C in the Golden Nugget $1.00 chip are deep and shinny, they are not concave (into the chip) like the CJ sample chips I have...
It is also some additional interesting data on some other chips I may post later, if there is sufficient interest...
Dick
