The auto-sort machines currently in use in Atlantic City sort chips by color. Not only are the roulette chips shoved into the hole in the table, but so are the regular "live" table chips. The various colors are scanned and sorted into separate elevator chutes that bring the sorted chips close to the top of the roulette table where the dealer reaches in to get whatever chips he/she needs to re-fill the depleted stacks in between spins. This machine eliminates the need for a 2nd dealer called the "mucker" and roulette harvesters love these tables because the dealer doesn't know how many chips are stored in the "hole" when a player/harvester cashes out or leaves the table.
